“If anyone loves the
world, the love of the Father is not in him”. 1 John 2:15b.
There are many
things in this world that are craving for our attention and our heart. These
things ranges from legitimate to illegitimate things. Legitimate things like
family, career, job, ministry, religious activities etc. And illegitimate
things which are aimed at satisfying our ego, greed and flesh. These are the
sinful desires and the lust for the things of this world.
The aim of the devil
is to capture your heart away from God to another direction. His aim is to stop
you from loving God the Father wholeheartedly. When the devil succeeds in
achieving this, he has won the battle over your life.
This is one reason
why you should keep your heart in check always, to ensure that the love for God
the Father is your priority and not the love for any man or anything.
We must be careful
of whom or what wins our heart, because anything that wins our heart
automatically gets us and dictates how our lives goes. Our heart should
primarily be to love God, then other things can follow. We can’t and shouldn’t love
anything first before God.
Our ultimate goal
and desire is to ensure that we love God the Father with our total being. We
cannot love God and love the world at the same time (1 John 2:15), it is
impossible-just like you can’t serve God and mammon or materialism
simultaneously.
When God takes His rightful place in our hearts, then can we
love the legitimate things in our lives correctly; for God must come first and
He must also get all of our hearts.
“For Demas has forsaken
me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica…” 2 Timothy 4:10a.
